A little more than 20 km (12 miles) south of her grandmother's home, Yuli's convoy stopped at the bottom of a hill where a large group of destitute earthquake victims sat around what was left of their lives. The convoy left them a tent, some vegetables, lanterns, tampons, salt, and noodles (water was accessible to them). As they were unpacking, the local in the white shirt made sure the convoy kept much of what they offered, because it was needed even more by a nearly-inaccessible village further up the hill.
